Yourself

I'm Rachel the Counsellor.

I am a qualified and experienced therapist in Edinburgh.

I work with people seeking clarity, connection, and a deeper understanding of themselves.

Whether you have trauma you're ready to explore, a specific issue it's time to work through or maybe you're not even sure - you just feel you'd like to chat and see - my approach is grounded, intuitive, and shaped by my real life experiences as much as my training.

I am warm and genuine.  I work with adults both in person, online and by phone - or even text message.

I have an integrative approach, which basically means I use different techniques and theories in different ways for each client I work with.  There isn't a "one size fits all".  Some clients may benefit more from looking at past experiences and environments to explore how and why they repeat patterns in their lives.  Others may want a comforting space to speak out loud the things that may be painful to talk about.  Sometimes when we speak with friends and family they want to offer help but it's not help we need or want we just want to be able to talk things out.  Some may find Cognitive Behavioural Therapy beneficial to help manage in the present tense.  It really truly is different for each person I work with and we do what is right for you.

I am a member of the NCPS - the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society and adhere to their code of ethics.  My profile is listed HERE. Their code of ethics can be found HERE.

My foundation is mostly psychodynamic and person-centred. To explain, psychodynamic therapy looks at how your past - including early relationships or experiences - might be influencing how you feel and relate to the world today (repeating patterns or behaviours, anyone?)  Person-centred therapy, on the other hand, is about meeting you with empathy, authenticity, and deep respect - trusting that you have the inner resources to grow, heal, and move forward, given the right conditions.

You don’t need to know what kind of therapy you need before you come - that’s part of what we figure out together.

People come to work with me for all sorts of reasons. You might be navigating a big life decision or change, feeling stuck, or going through a time of grief or loss. You might be living with the effects of trauma, struggling with anxiety or low self-esteem, or feeling like you've lost touch with who you are. Whatever’s bringing you here, we can take the time to understand it at your pace, collaboratively, and with care.

I work both in person, across two offices in Edinburgh, and I work online via Zoom or WhatsApp video call.

I work with a wide range of issues and offer a twenty minute phone call to see if we're a good fit.  Please feel free to email me or book the call here.
